Beaufort County United Way Names
New Executive Director
September 6, 2011
WASHINGTON, NC--Beaufort County United Way recently named Mark Hamblin to serve as its new Executive Director effective August 1, 2011. Hamblin assumed the role from Mary Elizabeth McNeill who has served as Executive Director since 2008. McNeill left Beaufort County United Way to return to school. Bill Mathews, Beaufort County United Way Board Chairman stated “We are very pleased to welcome Mark as the Beaufort County United Way Executive Director and look forward to his leadership and energy as we further our mission of ‘Neighbors Helping Neighbors’. Mary Elizabeth has done a tremendous job during her time with the Beaufort County United Way organization. The campaigns she led broke fundraising records for the organization during some of the toughest economic times in recent history. We will miss Mary Elizabeth, of course, but are pleased that she will be able to continue her education and wish her the very best”.
“I am excited to be part of this remarkable organization and look forward to working with our community partners, individual donors, local employers and their employees as they work to meet the vast human service needs in Beaufort County. Economic times continue to be rough but I have great faith in the charitable spirit of the people of eastern North Carolina and believe that they will continue to give to organizations that are working hard to give their neighbors a helping hand up” said Hamblin. According to Mathews, “Mark has great contacts in the area and an extensive background working with several of the organizations with which the United Way works. I believe that his business background will be beneficial to the Beaufort County United Way and the community as a whole”.
Beaufort County United Way was founded in 1961 and exists as a not-for-profit organization that provides community-wide leadership to develop resources and ensure their effective use to improve the quality of life for Beaufort County residents.
